British Trains - London Euston to Glasgow Central route by Virgin Trains
My name is Craig Moore and I enjoy seeing trains thunder past, be they old restored steam engines to modern electric or diesel superfast intercity express trains. Many people have a fascination with trains from the child playing with his Thomas the Tank Engine Hornby railway set to the train spotting enthusiast. Britain is blessed with conservation groups who restore, maintain, preserve and run old steam engines, track, stations, points and signal boxes. They take the same care in restoring the passenger carriages as they do the wagons and trucks.

Virgin Trains and the WCML London to Glasgow Scotland route
Virgin Trains were originally called Virgin Rail Group (VRG). They were awarded the Cross Country franchise on 28 November 1996 and operations began on 5 January 1997. Virgin CrossCountry ran for over 10 years. They were also awarded the British West Coast rail franchise on 19 February 1997 for a 15-year term and began operations on 9 March 1997.

At the end of the 10 years the Cross Country franchise was amended and put up for tender. It was awarded it to Arriva Trains on 10 July 2007. Virgin may have lost this franchise but as part of the changes rail services between Birmingham and Scotland (via Preston and Carlisle) were transferred to Virgin Trains from 11 November 2007.

Following Network Rail’s £9 billion upgrade of the West Coast Main Line from 14 December 2008 virgin were able to offer more trains and faster journey times. The routes from Manchester and Birmingham to London Euston saw train frequencies increased to every 20 minutes. The average journey times in the case of London to Manchester were slashed to as little as 2 hours 05 minutes. The 16:30 London Euston to Glasgow Central service is now completes the 401-mile journey in just 4 hours 10 minutes. This is the fastest journey time ever regularly run between the two cities.
